Draft. This page is waiting for review. Highlighted items in brackets still need information.
My commitment
Heritage belongs to everyone, and so should this website. I want everyone to be able to read, watch, listen to, and use this site, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnification, captions, or other assistive technology.
The standard I aim for
This site is designed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the widely used standard for accessible websites.
What I’ve done
- Text and background colors are chosen to be easy to read, with strong contrast.
- Photos have written descriptions (alt text) for people who can’t see them. Decorative images are skipped by screen readers.
- Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible outline showing where you are, and a “Skip to content” link.
- Headings are in a logical order so screen reader users can move around each page.
- Pages work on phones and tablets, and text can be enlarged without breaking the layout.
- Forms have clear labels, and expandable sections (like questions and speaking topics) work with keyboards and screen readers.
- Podcast videos have [captions on YouTube: confirm they’re turned on and checked].
Known limitations
- Some downloadable PDFs (bios and the speaker one-sheet) may not be fully accessible to screen readers yet. Email me and I’ll send the information in another format.
- Content on other websites I link to, like video platforms, podcast apps, and the online bookstore, is outside my control.
- [Podcast transcripts are not yet available for every episode.]
Tell me about a barrier
If something on this site doesn’t work for you, I want to know. Email speaker@tamigarcia.com with the page and what happened. I’ll do my best to reply within [5 business days] and to give you the information in a way that works for you.
